Weekly Highlights: JBD and Ennostar among Others Made New Plans with Increasing Market Attention to Mini/Micro LED



There has been big news in the Mini/Micro LED sector this week, such as Leyard’s announcement of its Black Diamond Micro LED technology and relevant products, a Micro LED TV costing less than RMB500,000 for first time ever, along with new progress made by Ennostar, Australis, Jingce as well as JBD’s achievement in mass producing red Micro LED chips. ★Market Value of Micro LEDs for AR Smart Glasses Displays to Reach US$41 Million by 2026, Says TrendForce
As TrendForce revealed in its latest Micro LED research report, the Micro LED yield will increase at a lower production cost following advances of technologies related to red chip manufacture, laser transfer, wafer bonding and full-color display. Between 2025 and 2026, the market value of Micro LEDs for new AR glasses displays will take off, estimated to hit US$ 41 million in 2026.

★TrendForce Publishes its Latest “2022 Global Automotive LED Product Trend and Regional Market Analysis”

On June 30, TrendForce rolled out the latest automotive LED report, stating that the increasing vehicle market shipment and LED lighting penetration prompted the global automotive LED market to be valued at US$ 3.543 billion in 2021. The top three automotive LED makers secured 72% of total sales, while the top 10 players dominated a market share of 96%.

★ Ennostar Plans to Raise NT$ 3.6 Billion to Build New Micro LED Factory through Private Placement

On June 24, Ennostar announced a private placement plan with NT$51.82 per share of common stock, whereby the LED manufacturer can potentially raise over NT$3.6 billion (approx. $121 million) for capital expenditure involving Micro LED wafer plant establishment, epitaxy process purchases and die process equipment purchases. The company also indicated that its Micro LED business will likely generate revenue starting next year.

Moreover, Ennostar has been expanding its Micro LED production capacity. On June 28, its subsidiary Epistar proposed a plan to spend NT$673 million on buying advanced epitaxy equipment from the leading MOCVD supplier Aixtron SE.

★ Jingce Electronic Plans to Raise RMB 1.45 Billion to Buy Mini/Micro LED Test Equipment

On June 28, Jingce Electronic announced that its application for issuing convertible bonds to non-specific investors was accepted by the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Reportedly, the enterprise intends to raise RMB1.46 billion at most to invest in three projects including a research, development and industrialization project of electronic test equipment for advanced displays. This project will total an investment of RMB676 million, centering on the mid- and large-size OLED and Mini/Micro LED sectors.

★ Chinese Firm Australis’ RMB740 Million Fundraising Plan Gets Approved with a Focus on Mini/Micro LED Projects

On June 24, Chinese optoelectronic company Australis’ application for issuing shares to specific investors was accepted by the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. The company will raise no more than RMB740 million to invest in four major projects including a project involving Mini/Micro LED display module production. This project allegedly totals an investment of RMB389 million and, when completed, will enable the company to manufacture 4.3 million Mini/Micro LED display modules per year.

★ Samsung’s 89” Micro LED TV to be Produced in 3Q22 with a Price Tag of US$77,000

On June 27, the South Korean media reported that Samsung Electronics decided to shift its Micro LED TV production lines from Vietnam to South Korea. The company will also start producing 89″ LTPS TFT-based Micro LED TVs, which are scheduled to be released in late 2022, with each being priced at around US$77,000 (RMB510,000).

★ Lenovo Rolls out New Mini LED Display Priced at RMB5,199

On June 26, Lenovo released a new 27″ Mini LED display 2727PL under its brand Lecoo. The 4K display features 576 local dimming zones, a 144Hz refresh rate, 1,000 nits of peak brightness and 110%NTSC color gamut. The product is now available on the website of JD.com with a price tag of RMB5,199.

★ JBD Announces Mass Production of High-Performance Red Micro LED Display boasting 500,000 nits of Brightness

On June 27, JBD announced the achievement of mass producing its red Micro LED display with 500,000 nits of brightness. The 0.13″ red microdisplay has a pixel size of only 4μm and Micro LED emitter size of 2μm. Despite the small seize, a µA-grade current can still smoothly pass through the chip to generate 500,000 nits of ultra-high brightness, which is more than ten times that of the major self-emitting display technologies, namely QD LED and Micro OLED.

★ Leyard Releases the “Black Diamond” Micro LED Lineup

On June 30, Leyard unveiled its Black Diamond Micro LED product line. The series—known for low power consumption, high stability and high brightness—covers P0.4 to P1.8 indoor fine-pitch displays. Notably, the unit price of its 100″ and bigger 4K Micro LED TVs is below RMB500,000 at lowest for first time ever.

★ 3AScreen Launches 0.39″ Single-Color and Full-Color Micro OLED Displays

On June 27, 3AScreen debuted 0.39″ single-color and full-color Micro OLED displays. Specifically, the red single-color product comes with a resolution, pixel density and brightness of 1,920X1,080, 5,644 PPI and 10,000 nits, respectively, while the full-color display with 1,000 nits of brightness is a perfect fit for AR products.

★ New Progress in Developing Watts-Level LED Integrated Light Sources with Output Power up to 1.88W

Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory partnered with Peking University and developed watts-level deep UV LED integrated light sources with wavelengths of 275nm, 265nm and 255m using COB integration; the output power can be as high as 1.88W.

★ Hebei University Makes New Progress in R&D of Deep UVC Random Laser

On June 30, the research team of Hebei University in China—by partnering with Kunming University of Science and Technology and other institutes—obtained a UVC random laser with a wavelength range of 230-250nm from a Pr3+ doped YPO4 single crystal via two-photon absorption under the excitation of a 450nm blue laser. Presently, this UVC random laser has a wavelength that is the shortest of its kind for up-conversion laser emission.
